NNPC’s Journey to Business Agility

Swift adaptability and agility are active keys to success. The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Nigeria’s energy sector cornerstone, recognized the need to embrace agility to stand out in the globally competitive market.

To achieve this, NNPC partnered with iCentra, a global business and technology solutions company with a dedicated learning and development unit to upskill one hundred and forty (140) of its staff from the Information Technology Department in business and technology skills;

  • Disciplined Agile Scrum Master (DASM)
  • Certified Business Data Analytics (IIBA – CBDA)
  • Certified Business Analysis Professional (IIBA – CBAP)

  • Project Management Professional (PMP)
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt (LSSGB)

The expected result of the collaboration which is increased workforce professional growth and the organization’s excellence has produced a record number of PMI Certified Disciplined Agile Scrum Masters in a sitting.

The Journey to Agile Certification

The journey began with a comprehensive training program that combined learning with practical experience. The delegates gained knowledge of Agile and Scrum principles and practices, with an emphasis on the context of NNPC’s dynamic environment. That is, a key highlight of the training was to tailor Agile methodologies to NNPC’s specific needs, ensuring a seamless adaptation of Agile practices to the organization’s value delivery.

Upon completing the custom training program, iCentra, in the spirit of the partnership provided NNPC with complimentary DASM exam vouchers and deployed them to PMI-authorized instructors who applied a hands-on approach in guiding the ten selected delegates to complete their journey of becoming certified Disciplined Agile Scrum Masters, as each delegate passed the certification exam at their first attempt.

The ten delegates namely Sharafa A. Sharafa, Iyata Adikpe, Ayebaboumobara Daw, Chinonso Nwishienyi, Oyewole Funsho, Oluwatobi Ayo-Yusuf, Samuel Sylvester-Aipoh, Abubakar Shehu Bashir, Maxwell Zion Ogirima, and Oluwakemi Omotayo Dada to become Certified Disciplined Agile Scrum Masters. The result of this collaboration has not only led to the personal and professional growth of these delegates but has also made them to be part of the few highly sought-after certified agile professionals in Nigeria and beyond.

This certification validated their expertise in Agile and Scrum methodologies, further boosting their confidence and credibility as Agile practitioners.

The Impact of this Transformation

The impact of this transformation was profound, both for the delegates and the NNPC as a whole. These certified Disciplined Agile Scrum Masters have become catalysts for change within the NNPC, championing Agile practices and inspiring their colleagues to embrace agility. The organization experienced improved project delivery, increased collaboration across teams, and a heightened ability to respond swiftly to market shifts.

iCentra’s Project Management expertise and commitment to delivering transformation played a key role in this transformational journey. The success of the ten delegates who became certified Disciplined Agile Scrum Masters showcases the positive impact that strategic partnerships and a commitment to agile transformation can have on individuals and organizations.
