NDPC Partners with InnTech Summit 2025 to Advance Data Protection and Responsible Innovation in Africa

Abuja, Nigeria — November 12, 2025 

The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has expressed its commitment to partnering with the organizers of the Innovation & Technology Summit (InnTech) 2025 to promote responsible innovation, ethical data governance, and trust in Africa’s digital economy. 

The partnership was formalized when the InnTech Summit organizing team, led by Mr. Taopheek Babayeju, Director of InnTech Summit and CEO of iCentra; Mr. Rex Abitogun, Technical Lead of InnTech and CEO, Management Edge and Ms. Opeyemi Odunsi, Legal Counsel, InnTech paid a courtesy visit to the National Commissioner/CEO of NDPC, Dr. Vincent Olatunji, at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja. 

During the visit, the InnTech team briefed the Commission on the forthcoming InnTech Summit 2025, themed “AI, Digital Economy, and Sustainability,” scheduled to hold on November 25, 2025, at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja. The Summit will bring together stakeholders from across government, business, academia, startups, and development agencies to explore how Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital innovation can accelerate Africa’s inclusive and sustainable growth. 

  

Strengthening Collaboration for Data-Driven Transformation 

Speaking during the visit, Dr. Vincent Olatunji welcomed the initiative and emphasized the Commission’s commitment to ensuring that data protection, digital trust, and responsible governance remain at the heart of Nigeria’s innovation and technology ecosystem. 

“At the NDPC, our role is to ensure that innovation happens in a safe, trusted, and rights-respecting environment. We are delighted to collaborate with the InnTech Summit in promoting awareness and conversations that balance innovation with accountability,”

In his remarks, Mr. Taopheek Babayeju commended NDPC’s leadership in institutionalizing data protection and regulatory trust in Nigeria’s digital economy, noting that the Commission’s involvement in the Summit will help enrich continental dialogue on AI and governance.

Collaboration Areas 

Under the partnership, the NDPC will serve as a Strategic Regulatory Partner for InnTech Summit 2025, contributing to discussions on AI governance, data ethics, and digital rights. 

The Commission will also participate in the Fireside Chat on Regulatory and Ethical Frameworks for AI and Data Governance — a key session at the Summit dedicated to strengthening Africa’s policy environment for responsible innovation.
